While what I exactly do may still be a mystery to my family, they are very patient and always willing to help,” says the Drexel University graduate, whose roles shift between working with the motion capture team, creative department and writing code for new tools to use on-set. And viewers couldn’t grasp the reality that the only living thing in the movie was the jungle boy, Mowgli, himself. Except with this new technology, he was able to do more than just compose shots — he could direct lights, pull focus on the lens, add dynamic atmospheric effects such as rain, fog, fire, and essentially dictate the mood of a shot. “It was a lengthy 18-month production from pre-production all the way to on-set filming,” he says adding, “I remember when the art department and a team of location scouters returned from a country-wide trip to capture the flora and wildlife of India — did you know that King Louie’s temple was inspired by the Kailasanatha Temple in Ellora ”Meanwhile, Girish had begun working with Microsoft creative supervisor Habib Zargarpour and principal software engineer Wes Potter on developing a visualisation tool called Photon. “As for the cast members, considering this was essentially following the model of a Disney animated film; all the principal voice actors were recorded in sound booths at a studio outside of set.Writing the future of virtual productionFrom sleepless nights to sending out hundreds of job applications, Girish is humbled by how far he has come.” And that’s how The Jungle Book became the first feature film to fully integrate this video game engine as visualisation into the filmmaking pipeline.

“The profession that I have chosen is one less travelled in our community. My parents, who are from Chennai, are incredibly motivated and cultured people.Girish explains, “Photon was fully integrated into Digital Domain’s motion capture pipeline, allowing the cinematographer Bill Pope, ASC to utilise a virtual camera system, similar to the one used on Avatar, to look into the virtual world. They work as senior managers and also volunteer at our local Sri Guruvayurappan Temple as well as teach prayer classes to young children.”Currently, Girish is the virtual production technical director working at Digital Domain, that was responsible for the visual effects of films like Titanic, Apollo 13, and X-Men.The Jungle Book has seemingly packed a surprise for everyone. She is the brighter child, classically trained in Bharatanatyam and volunteers as a ‘Big Sister’ to mentor young girls. Plus, you can’t deny he does look and act a lot like the 1967 classic Mowgli,” says Girsh, who feels he is just “one small cog in the giant machine”. And hopefully one day, I can even share one of our Indian epics with the rest of the world — it’s about time!”And one final advice he gives those aspiring to make it big in virtual production: “Watch lots of movies and delve into the behind-the- scenes,” he says, adding, “Surround yourself with people better than you, and you will be pushed to do better. Also, coffee helps. “My passion has always been about how we can use the right tools to tell the best story.Working on The Jungle BookThe opportunity to wholesale LED Back-Up Lights be a part of The Jungle Book came during the crossover period between working at 5D Global Studios and Digital Domain. My younger sister is on the medical track at Boston University. Trade pundits couldn’t believe that the film’s gross income touched Rs 250 crore in its sixth week in India. Girish BalakrishnanThe Jungle Book has seemingly packed a surprise for everyone. “I was raised in New Jersey, went to school at Drexel University in Philadelphia for both undergrad and graduate school in Digital Media before moving to Los Angeles. Neel Sethi, barely 10-year-old Mowgli from New York City at the time of filming, was present at the studio every day. His performance definitely resonated in the final film.”. Who is Girish Balakrishnan “I have always been a student of film, even before I truly understood what cinematography meant,” says Girish. On the motion capture stage, you would see a child alongside motion-captured puppeteers, but in the lens of the camera you would see a boy standing under the dappled light of jungle alongside his animal friends. Trade pundits couldn’t believe that the film’s gross income touched Rs 250 crore in its sixth week in India. As for the future, I plan to delve further into more embryonic technologies like virtual and augmented/ mixed reality. Since this was his first film, we watched him grow, learn how to act to a camera, and explore his imagination with the puppeteers in the blue-screen stage. And you will be surprised to know that the film’s virtual production technical director was a 25-year-old Indian named Girish Balakrishnan.

This allows for fewer takes and costs less, but it also means more diffuse, less natural-looking lighting in the final product. movie.. They all made Yuyao HOJA Lighting Products Co., Ltd. the switch to broadcast in high definition, which was a costly upgrade, but one that greatly improved viewability. Soaps have often been shot on various types of videotape to keep costs down.jpgSoap operas, “soaps” or “my stories”, as many a grandmother has called them, are dramas presented in a serial format on daytime television or radio. On tapeThe filming medium (that is, what the show is recorded on) and the way the show is shot make up the other half of the equation.Of course, daytime soaps have taken a big hit in recent years, and only four of the classics — The Young and the Restless, The Bold and the Beautiful, General Hospital and Days of Our Lives —remain on air. Soaps took off because they’re often evenly lit across the entire set to facilitate simultaneously shooting with more than one camera. Shooting with videotape also gives you a lower resolution, and to compensate, soaps have always made heavy use of close-ups. Backlighting, part of the three-point lighting setup often used in television production, helps “lift” actors out of the background. Soaps usually use static cameras. Actors in the foreground often wind up very noticeably backlit.

Time and budgetary constraints and the multi-camera setup also require soaps to edit differently. This is especially useful for productions that are shot on a lower-quality medium and in small interior sets, which soaps often are. This lighting or shooting method means the actors can move around and the lights don’t have to be reset for every shot. There are two main reasons for this lack of visual quality, both of which were rooted in the problem of soap operas’ time slots and scheduling. Daytime TV shows generally don’t pull in as much advertising revenue as evening programs, and many soap operas air daily instead of weekly, so low budgets, short production times and quick turnaround are the name of the game.Soap operas, “soaps” or “my stories”, as many a grandmother has called them, are dramas presented in a serial format on daytime television or radio. The problem is that shooting on videotape on a small set can reduce the subtlety of the lighting technique. Their name comes from a time when old serial dramas broadcast on radio had soap manufacturers (Procter & Gamble and Lever Brothers, for instance) as sponsors and or producers. Angle shifts are usually accomplished by cutting from one camera to another and any movement tends to be simple zooming, which you're about as likely to see in a movie as you are to see sweeping pan shots and long-take tracking shots on daytime TV.The lighting gameSoap opera lighting is a major reason the shows looked the way they do. They also, you probably remember, looked really, really crappy.

In day mode, the video feed is pretty decent and colours are up to the mark.To make home security cameras simpler, IP cameras were first launched years ago, but implementing them too needed an engineer to setup a complete network at home, connecting it to the internet and giving out remote access to the owner, which was painstaking and expensive. If you intend buying one of these cameras, suggest mounting it on the ceiling at one end of the room. Yes I know, language evolves and the arbiters of usage, compilers of dictionaries agree as they overhaul them each year adding new words and weeding out the unused dead. The women who served their households were afforded the dignity of their own names. Those above died naturally and some are deservedly put to death. I know that Americans say “my bad” to mean they were wrong about something but it’s ignorant and ugly — as when Donald Trump says “bigly”.The women who served their households were afforded the dignity of their own names. So “prepone” will enter the Oxford dictionary. I once, in her presence heard Benazir Bhutto say that before a failed terrorist attack on her they were “closing the lights”. I haven’t checked in the dictionary but in contemporary usage we have abolished, for instance, what popular argot calls “the N word”. What then of the young reader of history? No empires? Dipti’s latest collection of works emerged out of her month-long stay in Istanbul. These are printed on linen canvases and then hand-painted over with gold yantras in accordance to the science of geometry. The exhibition explores the uniting elements between the Turkish-Islamic architectural heritage and the Indian yantras and mandalas through an innovative layering technique. “I was always fascinated with Istanbul and its architectural beauty,” states Dipti and adds, “The fact that it was first under the rule of the Greek and was then transformed into an Islamic stronghold is what impressed me.”From the Basilica Cistern in the past to the Turkish evil eye in the present, her canvases represent it with perfect balance.
